Course Goal/Objective

Describe how concepts such as RISC, pipelining, cache memory, and virtual memory have evolved over the past 25 years to improve system performance.

Instructions

In this short research paper, you will investigate the evolution of and current trends in improving system performance with concepts such as RISC, pipelining, cache memory, and virtual memory. In this paper you must, as part of your conclusion, explicitly state the concept or approach that seems most important to you and explain your selection.

A minimum of two references is required for this paper. At least one article should be from a peer-reviewed journal. If you use Web sites other than the article databases provided by the UMGC Library in your research, be sure to evaluate the content you find therefor authority, accuracy, coverage, and currency.

Submission of Paper

Submit your paper as a Word document in your Assignments folder. I will pay a great deal of attention to your thesis statement, the concise but logical flow of your information, your conclusion, and your grammar and syntax.

Submitted papers that show evidence of plagiarism will be sent to the Dean's office for review.

Your paper should have no spelling or grammatical mistakes, and the construction should be logical and easy to read. These are research papers, and should not contain colloquial or slang expressions. Provide a reference list at the end of the paper. Use a minimum of two outside references.

Your papers are due by midnight, EST, on the date posted in the class schedule.

Format and length

Your paper should be written using APA style. It should be no more than five pages long, but no less than three pages long. The font size should be 12 point, with one-inch margins and double spacing.

Evolution of RISC
The microprocessor chips can be classified into two basic categories which are complex instructions at computers and the radios instructions at computers as per the archi
tecture point of view. In both of these cases the objective is just to improve the performance of the system. There has been debate between these two architectures which has created interesting and challenging environment in the research area. The complex instruction set computers are based over the complex instruction set in which the structures will be executed by the microphone. The microcode will allow the developer to change hardware design and still maintain backward compatibility with the instructions for the computers as we can only change the microcode.
Thus it make a complex instruction set which is flexible and possible. This instruction set includes multiple instructions which has different execution cycles and different sizes and it makes them harder to pipeline. These my group was assessors have become prevalent and each successive processor has one or more complicated hardware and complex instruction sets. This strange started from the Intel. The reduced instruction set computer evolved around 1970 as the action performed at CISC chips. In 1970s what cell Research Center provided the fundamental concept related with RISC and the idea came from the IBM 801 mini computer which is used as the fast controller in large telephone switching system.
This chip has many traits which can be later present in RISC. It will have few instructions and some fix size instructions in the fixed format. It includes execution of the single cycle for the processor and LOAD structure. These ideas were articulated and refined by their group who coined this term as RISC. They realised that it promised higher performance at lesser cost and faster design time. This simple load or...
