Convertible automobiles are once again popular. While offering the pleasure of open-air motoring, they offer little protection to the occupants in a rollover accident. Pennanent roll bars are ugly and detract from the open feeling of a true convertible. An automatically deployable roll bar mechanism is needed that will be out of sight until needed. In the event that sensors in the vehicle detect an imminent rollover, the mechanism should deploy within 250 ms. Design a collapsible/deployable roll bar mechanism to retrofit to the convertible of your choice.
