Construction Information for question 1
· Every essay must have a main idea/thesis statement! This is essentially the foundation, the backbone of the entire essay. Without it, the purpose, focus, and direction of the essay remains unidentified. One of the ways that we were taught to create a main idea was to restating the question. Simple and effective! However, at this academic level, try to go beyond simply restating the question. Make sure that you identify the two or three supporting points that you will are going to elaborate upon in the essay.
· The project is a 300 word essay. That means that a single paragraph essay is appropriate. For a single paragraph essay, your main idea/thesis statement must be the first sentence of the essay. Make sure that include a concluding sentence (still a single paragraph essay). Don’t allow your content to fall off of the figurative content cliff!
o Looking ahead, you will be working with longer essays, and structure, organization, and paragraphs will be a vital component. You will work with what is called a 3x5 essay: an introduction paragraph (with a thesis statement at the end of the introduction paragraph), 3 supporting body paragraphs (each that focus on a single topic), and a conclusion paragraph.

Grading Rubrics for 2 and 3 and Instructions
For your Journal projects, you can absolutely write in a colloquial/casual tone. You can and should use first person verbiage; after all, they are your Journal projects, coming from your perspective. You DO NOT need to identify resources with any Journal entries; however, with that being said, you also must not use any direct quotes. We are foregoing the rule of identifying indirect quotes in the Journal projects. Contact me if you have any questions about this.
