Consider your assessment strategies based on using literature in your content area classroom. Will your students conduct poster sessions about what they learned? Will they conduct their own book- talks that address the content? Will they develop artistic representations of what they learned? Will they gather journal entries for which you have developed speciic criteria? Although there is a myriad of ways to assess student learning outcomes when teachers engage their students with literature- based content learning, you need to establish guidelines at the outset to ensure that your students are demonstrating the standards that you expected them to learn when you planned your lessons
