Consider a 2-bit field VC network for the VC total. Suppose the network wishes to create a virtual circuit over four links: link A, link B, connection C and link D. Suppose that each connection has two other virtual circuits, and the VC numbers of these other VCs are as follows:

Please note that one of the current VCS will only pass through one of the four connections while addressing these queries.

a. If each VC is obligated on all ties in its route to use the same VC number, which VC number could be allocated to the new VC?

b. Where each VC can have various VC numbers in its various ties along the way (so that the forwarding tables have to translate the VC number), how many variations may each have four VC numbers (one for each of the four links)?
