Conduct the appropriate test of significance for each research situation. Problems are stated in no particular order and include research situations from each chapter in Part II. (Use alpha = 0.05 throughout.)
a. Is there a gender gap in use of the Internet? Random samples of men and women have been questioned about the average number of minutes they spend each week on the Internet for any purpose. Is the difference significant?
b. For high school students, is there a relationship between social class and involvement in activities such as clubs and sports? Data have been gathered for a random sample of students. Is the relationship significant?
c. A social survey was administered to a random sample of adults. One question asked respondents how many total sex partners they have had over their lifetimes. The data for a subsample of 23 of these respondents are shown below. Does the number vary significantly by educational level?
d. A sample of Canadians selected at random was asked how many times they had moved since they were 18 years of age. The results are presented below. On average, how many times do Canadians move?
