A computer refers to an automated electronic device used to store and process the information. It is also used to manipulate the symbols. There are three main types of computer:
A. Supercomputer and mainframe computer: These are the fastest and the most expensive computers which are used for specialised purposes. These computers are able to do huge amount of mathematical calculations. It also includes applications which are used for weather forecasting, geological data evaluation, electronic design and research in energy sectors.
B. Minicomputers: This is a type of computer which is capable of supporting 1 to 200 users concurrently and has multiprocessing capability.
C. Workstations: This is a type of computer which is used for edifying software, network applications and desktop publishing. It has high resolution, large screen with graphics, RAM; graphical user interface. These are also called diskless workstations. Windows with NT and UNIX operating system.
