In the novel, ‘We Were Here’ by Matt Da La Pena, is about three kids who ran away from the Lighthouse to find a better place and life somewhere in Mexico. But when they reached Mexico, they faced with lots of problem which they were unable to manage. The settings of this book begin from the streets of Stockton and goes all the way to the Mexican border. Further, the kids decide to stay on the beaches while travelling to Mexico. They also stayed in cave and watched a basketball game and the weightlifters exercising on the beach. The main characters of this novel are Miguel, Rondell and Mong. As all the three did some criminal acts, they all stayed in group home. The other characters of this novel are Miguel’s mother, brother Diego, the cousin of Mong, Me-li Chen, Jaden, Lester, Flaca and her friend. Yet the other characters are not so famous in the novel. The main issue in the novel ‘We Were Here’ the conflict arises when Mong dies and its Rondell and Miguel are left alone. They had no idea on what to do as it was Mong who knew what to do, the way they had to live and the way to live in Mexico. During this transition Rondell and Miguel faced a tough life and had to decide whether they should escape Mexico or start a new life by entering in the profession of a hitman. The writer of the novel Pena, ends her novel by letting the two kids decide between good and bad.
