(Perspective of Arabic & Iranian Culture)

The Family of Arabic Descent
Arab Americans and Said Family
Major Arab Americans comprise of Christians however Muslims also represent a fastest growing community in some areas. They have a strong commitment to education and economic well being. 85%
of Arab Americans have got at least a high school diploma and 88% work in private sector. Their mean income is 8% greater than the US national average of $56,644 and their average income is 22% higher than the national average of US (Arab American Stories, 2011). There is a language gap between first-generation parents and children in English speaking. Children speak fluent English while the parents often find it difficult.
Just like other Arab Americans, Said’s is also a family oriented family, having a strong commitment to education. Mr. Ahmed is high school pass, working in private plastic factory. Their children speak fluent English while Mr. Ahmed and Mrs. Ayesha find it difficult to be fluent in English.
Risk of stressful Immigration
The migration involved adapting a new culture in the US with new locality and society. Mr. Ahmed had to seek a new job to satisfy financial needs of the family. Mrs. Ayesha is diagnosed with radical mastectomy. She has to look after her 6 children and her Mother in law along with doing other household chores.
Steps to develop a rapport with Mrs. Ayesha
To develop a rapport with Mrs. Ayesha, I would introduce myself to her, speaking about my family and my job. I would try to build trust in our relations. I might arrange for a female Arabic translator to understand their viewpoint better. I would keep in mind general etiquettes that Arabs prefer in their behavior like greeting everyone individually, standing while someone enters the room, greeting the elderly people first, to show respect etc (Hamdy,2012).
Unhappy expressions by face, not responding to my greetings, not answering my questions, refusal to discuss personal problems might block the communication. If as a lady, I tend to speak to Mr. Ahmed more than Mrs. Ayesha, she might take it rudely (Harn, 2017).
Interventions to accommodate Mrs. Ayesha’s shyness
I would appreciate her culture and behavior first to make her comfortable. I would advise her important things to keep in mind while dealing with people in the US. We might go for a walk to show her how the ladies in the US dress up and roam around. Sharing some time together might make her feel open up.
     Interpretation of Mrs. Ayesha’s behavior
In Arabic culture, elders are often given priority to take lead in important discussions. I accept Mrs. Ayesha’s such behavior as a cultural practice where younger ladies do not indulge in initial conversation with strangers.
Interpretation of Mr. Ahmed’s behavior
I would like to convince Mr. Ahmed about the stable condition of Mrs. Ayesha. Still, if he wants to see the doctor, I would accept it as his measure of concern and over-protective behavior for his wife.
Arab Food Preferences
Arab people prefer nonvegetarian protein-rich food like fish and poultry, basically ‘Halal’ food. Certain dietary restrictions on Muslims food are alcohol, pig products, alcohol and other ingredients from animals not slaughtered as per halal procedure (Haris, 2017). I would check Mrs. Ayesha’s medical history for any dietary allergy, BP or diabetes. I would suggest a high protein diet in her menu to facilitate faster recovery. Her diet menu would include Yogurt,...
