The Superfund program responds by making noticeable and long-lasting difference in the area by cleaning up the most hazardous waste site, dealing with threats to natural environment and public health. It also prevents future releases of hazardous toxins in the environment and enhances the quality of life.

(a) Background - The PJP Landfill Superfund Site is a 87 acres area located in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. The land was placed to Superfund National Priorities List by EPA in September 1983 because the soil and groundwater at the site was found to be cotaminated with hazardous waste. The area contained  landfill that was earlier used to dispose  chemical and industrial wastes.
(b) Cleanup Activities - In the initial response the landfill was extinguished by New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, capping the landfill.
