26/03/2019 Mobile Based Farmer Support Application (MBFSA) – virtucon https://thinkspace.csu.edu.au/virtucon/mobile-based-farmer-support-application-mbfsa/ 1/3 Mobile Based Farmer Support Application (MBFSA) Background The mission of Globex is to help farmers to increase their productivity while reducing the required time and cost. It currently has two major products: Farm Equipment and Precision Farming. The Globex Farm Equipment team has over 30 years’ experience in agricultural business and are the largest in the Riverina region due to their vast inventory, years of experience and most importantly their commitment to serving farmers for the future. Globex Corporation, and formerly B T & Sons Farming Equipment, has invested in their team, products and supply network to support the region’s farming needs. Globex Farm Equipment Sales, Parts and Service representatives have completed training on the newest technologies and are experts at helping farmers plan for the future. They stock a wide range of new and used equipment available in their Albury, Griffith and Wagga Wagga branches enabling their customers a wide selection of units to choose from and with two warehouses (located in Albury and Griffith) full of parts inventory they can promptly get the parts to meet customers need. Globex Precision Farming solutions (formerly Riverina Precision Farming) enhance the efficiency of farming, so that farmers can quickly and easily improve everyday planning, decision-making and overall strategy for their operations. With precision agriculture products and related solutions, Globex Precision Farming assists farmers throughout every step of their operation processes. By leveraging proven technologies to operate efficiently, farmers save on input costs, and improve crop performance and productivity in order to make the best decisions for their farming operations. Globex Precision Farming integrates a wide range of positioning technologies including GPS, laser, optical and inertial technologies with application software, wireless communications, and services to provide complete commercial solutions. Its integrated solutions allow customers to collect, manage and analyse complex information faster and easier, making them more productive, efficient and profitable. In their efforts to better serve the farming community, Globex management have made a strategic decision to develop a mobile based farmer support application (MBFSA) that would help farmers plan their crops every season. This app would help farmers gain knowledge and information on which crop to grow, in what quantity and also which wholesalers and markets to sell their produce. This program is intended to help farmers reduce the problem of over growing a particular crop, manage the delivery and minimise the losses which impacts small farmers tremendously if they over grow a crop or grow a wrong crop. 26/03/2019 Mobile Based Farmer Support Application (MBFSA) – virtucon https://thinkspace.csu.edu.au/virtucon/mobile-based-farmer-support-application-mbfsa/ 2/3 Project Description Globex has requested mobile-based application system to manage the entire MBFSA program. This program will be a collaborative work between the following main entities: farmers, government, wholesalers and Globex’ own representatives. Local Government MBFSA will interact with the local government on the weather conditions and the market demand for a particular crop. It would collect information such as name of geographical area, name and dates of a particular season, the dates of changing weather conditions, names and respective anticipated quantity of the crop in demand in a particular area. MBFSA would collect the names and geographical location of the area and the names of the crops grown as master data from the government sources. Wholesalers and Markets MBFSA will allow wholesalers and markets to provide the information on the name and quantity of produce needed for different geographical areas. Each wholesaler or markets manager would register on the app and manage their profile information such as name of the market or wholesaler, contact details & manager name and contact details. Each wholesaler and market would have one or more geographical areas which they can add, update or delete and enter the required produce needed. Farmers MBFSA would will collect information from farmers on their geographical location for each of their farms, preferred crops they can grow, capacity and season they grow crops in. Farmers can register themselves on the app and add, update, delete the farms, crops, quantity and season of choice. Globex Globex representatives will use the collected information to facilitate the appropriate crops to be grown and sold in various geographical areas by farmers and identify the appropriate farming equipment needed by farmers by matching the data collected from government, wholesalers/markets and the farmers. Globex will also provide training to sample farmers from every geographical area who would then be able to train and assist the fellow farmers in their area. It is assumed that Globex has the capacity to identify and maintain the relations with government bodies to collect the required master data for this project. A major skill they must possess is the ability to work in the different sectors that serve the current farming solutions products. 26/03/2019 Mobile Based Farmer Support Application (MBFSA) – virtucon https://thinkspace.csu.edu.au/virtucon/mobile-based-farmer-support-application-mbfsa/ 3/3 Globex is a long-standing client of Virtucon. Therefore, Virtucon has been requested to project manage the development of this mobile-based farmer support application. As a preliminary study Virtucon would contact the main farmers in each geographical area and run a pilot study with then in the initiation phase of this project. They would use fact-finding techniques to gather the required information before starting the planning phase. It is assumed that Virtucon team is familiar with various fact-finding techniques and the technology required to implement this application. As a part of the preliminary study it is important to identify the kind of mobile devices used by the farmers so an application be developed to suit the majority of the farmers. Globlex wants this MBFSA to be developed within 6 months and the first prototype after the pilot study to be ready within 2 months. Virtucon will charge Globex only 50% for the management of this project, and will endeavour to deliver the solution on time, and as cheap as possible while still meeting all project requirements. Globex have also requested that: – A cost estimate and budget be prepared for the cost of the system development and implementation – Detailed reporting system to include (but not limited to): Crops required per geographical area Farmers registered per geographical area Produce requirements for all registered wholesalers and markets in each geographical area
