Burnout in health workers can result in poor physician-patient communication and negative outcomes. Regular exposure to high-demand, minimal care environments has been linked to negative outcomes such as burnout. In addition, new research suggests a link between poor physician-patient communication and physician burnout (Chang et al., 2018). Researchers studied 26 primary care providers and other physicians who cared for hypertensive patients and discovered an inverse correlation between rapport-building communication skills, like empathy, and burnout.
