You can understand the Plagiarism Procedures by following the corresponding link in the CQUniversity Policies section of the Unit Profile.

Assessment Criteria

In this assessment task, you are assessedon your ability to undertake the design of a network containing logical and physical designs for the given scenario using the top-down network designmethodology andprepare a complete report of your design. The marking criteria for this assessment task are provided on page 4.

You need to familiarise yourself with the marking criteria to ensure that you have addressed them when preparing your logical network design report.

Submission

Each one of you in the group must upload thesame written report to Moodleon or before the due date.

The Scenario for Network Design Assessment Tasks

Your company in Australia specialises in designing networks for local and international clients. Your company has signed a contract to design the network for Smart Pharmacy (SP) that has a number of pharmacy franchises throughout NSW, Australia.

SP purchases its products from various manufacturers all over the world. SP will have its new warehouse in Botany, NSW from where the products will be delivered to each franchise when the stock level of the products in a franchise drops below a threshold. The warehouse will have all the information about the products that are in each franchise in its database. When a product is sold by a franchise, the database in the warehouse will be automatically adjusted. The warehouse will also stream videos about its products and other health information to the video screens at each franchise. Customers will be able to browse through all products of SP on its website. After selecting a franchise pharmacy and the product(s), they will be able to pay online and collect the product(s) at the selected franchise. When a product is ready to be collected, a text message will be sent to the phone of the customer. SP will also appoint a team of door to door delivery people all over Australia who would help elderly patients order prescription medication and deliver them from a franchise later.

The managing director who is also the owner of SP, a purchasing manager, a storekeeper, a logistics manager and an accounts & finance manager will be located in an office attached to the warehouse. All servers of SP will behousedin a room in the same office where the network managerwill be also be located. All internal and external financial transactionswill behandled by the accounts and finance manager. As the managing directordoes not support a cloud-based solution, a highly secure network should be designedfor SP in order to protectclient, businessand financialinformation.

Usingthe top-down network design methodology, you are to design the network of SP.You are allowed to make assumptions in relation to business and technical goals if they are really required to undertake your network design. Each step of yournetworkdesign should clearlyexplainandjustifyhow you satisfy thebusiness and technical goals.

PROJECT GOALS
This project aims to design the network for Smart Pharmacy(SP) that has a number of pharmacy franchises throughout NSW, Australia. This project aims to
top-down network design methodology. Smart Pharmacy wants manage warehouse the best possible way through a smarter combination of innovation, service and compounding expertise.
PROJECT SCOPE
The network for Smart warehouse management is designed where the warehouse contains the pharmacy products. The new warehouse is established at Botany, NSW from where all system is operated. Scope of this project is that in this logically designed network considering network address, hardware components, topologies, etc. The components are chosen in way that will be scalable and affordable for future needs.
BUSINESS GOALS AND CONSTRAINTS
In this section business goals and constraints are discussed. SP’s new franchise warehouse is at Botany, NSW.
The goal of this Pharmacy organization will be listed below as follows:
Goals:
A. SP will deliver products to each franchise from their new warehouse in Botany, NSW. Here they will store purchased item from all over the world.
B. Whenever any franchise will be out of stock of goods, products will be delivered by this franchise at Botany, NSW.
C. The warehouse database will store information of all the products in each franchise. After delivery of product, franchise database automatically gets updated.
D. Customers can place their orders through website also it is possible to make online payment.
E. The network is supposed to design in a way that when product is ready to deliver after receiving its order, customer will get a message on their phones.
F. Home delivery option is also available for elderly patients.
G. All servers of SP and network manager are located in a same office.
Constraints:
A. Lack of prioritization as all the orders placed have same priority.
B. Highly secured network needs to designed for SP in order to protect data corruption.
C. Lack of systematic approach warehouse should have different teams which will execute their respective roles in a time.
D. Network doesn’t seem to flexible in order to adapt future changes which may not be affordable.
E. Fast delivery option have to be there in case of any emergency request which need service as soon as possible.
TECHNICAL GOALS AND TRADEOFFS
Considering the project goals and business goals next section is to set the technical goals. Technical goals defines how we need to work on the technical things in order to accomplish the target. Which components, topologies, protocols to be used are decided according to the criterion mentioned by technical goals. Some of the technological goals and tradeoffs of SP are discussed as follows:
Goals:
A. Security: Highly secure network should be designed for SP in order to protect system from any cyber attacks which will corrupt important data in system.
B. Scalability: As there is always chance to increase in complexity in warehouse, system design must be like that it should be scalable for future needs.
C. Availability: As the warehouse product are medication based, it should always be prepared to handle any emergency services.
D. Manageability: The network should be designed in such a way that user will not face any issue while placing order. As this will directly affect the on business goal.
E. Agility: System upgradation must be cost efficient, so that it will be affordable to make any changes in future using some other innovative ideas and technology.
F. Data Visibility: Transparency in all aspects of operation.
