Clerk of an organization has collected the data related to the workers and their income per hour. As he is not aware of the statistical tools and techniques, he has presented the data in the following way –
Five percent of the workers in a factory employing a total of 2000, earn less than Rs. 20 per hour, 480 earn from Rs. 20 to Rs. 24 per hour, 35 percent earn from Rs. 25 to Rs. 29 per hour, 370 earn from Rs. 30 to Rs. 34, 12 percent earn from Rs. 35 to Rs. 39 and the rest earn Rs. 40 or more per hour.
Being an expert, you are requested to present this data in proper manner and hence, answer the following questions of the owner of the organization –
i)
Owner of the organization wants to know arithmetic mean of the data presented to you. Can you calculate the mean without making any change in the groups of the data? If yes, calculate. If not, give reason.
ii)
If you are not able to calculate mean, then which measure of central tendency you will apply? Explain reason in detail and hence calculate that measure of central tendency.
