Class societies, by definition, allow for a good deal of social mobility. But even in the most “class-like” societies, the amount of social mobility has its limits. Looking at the United States—which clearly allows for social mobility—what barriers to upward mobility can you identify for certain segments of the US population? What would it take to eliminate some of these barriers?
