The Yellow Wallpaper
The first edition of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's short tale "The Yellow Wallpaper" came out in 1892. An anonymous woman who is kept in a chamber in a colonial estate by her doctor husband John tells the narrative. The narrator just gave birth to a kid, and she looks to be experiencing postpartum depression. Her spouse orders what he thinks is the best course of action for her, total solitude and relaxation in a room with yellow wallpaper. The chamber with the yellow wallpaper, where the narrator is imprisoned, makes a vital contribution to the themes of limited freedom and imprisonment, as well as the need for control and escapism. The wallpaper, according to the narrator, has a "sickly, sulphur tint" and is "lurid orange in some places, a sickly sulphur tint in others."
