Chemical engineering heat transfer question: A cylindrical pipe with 5000 pin fins on the external surface is used to cool down a mixture of gases in a chamber. The question asks me to calculate the total heat transfer rate from the water in the pipe to the gas outside the pipe and fins, ASSUMING the fin tip is adiabatic. As the fins are adiabatic can I ignore them and only consider the pipe thickness as adiabatic means no heat transfer.
