nature
waste
energy
toxins.
For each aspect, write down the following information:
1. Current sustainable practices
Names of the policies and procedures that are linked to these practices

Policy/procedure names
Potential areas for change
Barriers to change
Nature
· Adopting green hospital policies of using eco-friendly products, practices as well as the hospital design
· Metrics development for sustainability
· Following National level levers such as National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines
· Overcoming healthcare staff communication gaps on sustainability through training
· Lack of training personnel
Waste
· Separate disposal of bio-medical waste
· Maintaining separate labeled bins for the medical wastes in the wards
· Inclusion of “Green Advisory” team
· Healthcare waste management
· Recycling of the waste materials
· Lack of responsible initiative for implementing the new method
Energy
· Purchasing energy efficient supplies (or) products
· Conserved use of water and electricity
· Reduced use of natural resources
· Environmental sustainability policy
· Stringent rules to reduce the energy consumption
· Policy implementation to save energy
Toxins
· Incineration of the toxic wastes

Part B
Choose one potential change you identified in Part A that could be implemented to enhance environmental sustainability in a service.
Question 1
Describe the area of change you have chosen. Include the following:
1. The change you have chosen to implement
The area of service delivery involved
An explanation of how involving children in implementing this change will increase children’s respect for and connection with nature
How this area of change links to one of the key global issues
Answer
Energy saving is the area of change that I chose to implement as this is the main area where each one of us can contribute either directly (or) indirectly. From children to aged people, everyone can do their part to save the energy, which when put together, will show a major impact on the overall sustainability management. Even the minor concerns by the public at their homes, offices, public spaces etc will lead to a major difference.
Children being keen observers will watch the elders and imitate them mostly. So, when they watch us switching off the fans and lights when not in use, turning off the tap to avoid water wastage, using public transports etc, they try to do the same acts. Knowingly (or) unknowingly, they start conserving energy. This can also turn into a regular habit later. Not only this, talking to them and explaining about the various positive impacts of these minor practices will make them aware and also develop a sense of responsibility in environmental conservation.
