Project Assessment

31875/02 Project

This project is in two parts.

Part A - Resource Kit

In the Learner Guide for this unit, you were asked to compile a number of resources in your Resource Kit. It is now time to organise and extend these resources into a well-organised, up-to-date professional portfolio that you can utilise in the workplace.

Create a separate folder for your portfolio within your Resource Kit. Your portfolio should include your ideas and resources to support the development and wellbeing of the children in your care. Your ideas for experiences must support the development and wellbeing of children aged 0–6.

1.

Divide your portfolio into five sections as follows:

· physical development

· language development

· social development (include emotional and psychological development)

· creative development

· cognitive development.

In each section, provide a minimum of three ideas for experiences that support the development and wellbeing of children of children of varying ages. At completion, you will have fifteen (15) entries in total (e.g. your section on ‘physical development’ will include three experiences).

Each entry should be a maximum of one (1) page and should be presented in a clear, well-presented manner that will make it easy to source and use in the workplace.

The following information should be included in each entry:

·

The name of the experience

Be specific with the experience names/suggestions and make sure that they are clearly supporting an area of skill development.

·
The specific age range

Please make sure it is specific. e.g. 6mths – 18mths, 2 – 3yrs, or 3 – 5yrs. 0 – 2 is not specific and consider that we would not be providing an activity for a 0-year-old infant.

3+ years is to broad for most activities. The babies require one on one attention to ensure their safety and the older children e.g. 4 – 6-year-old require a level of independence and need to be stimulated and challenged.

·
For whom the experience is appropriate

Please make sure it is specific. e.g. 6mths – 18mths, 2 – 3yrs, or 3 – 5yrs. 0 – 2 is not specific and consider that we would not be providing an activity for a 0-year-old infant. Most services accept infants from 6 weeks of age.

For example-

3+ years is too broad for most activities.

·
A suggested group size

This needs to say an actual group size such as 3 or 5 not large or small. Whole group or using the + symbol is not specific enough either. Consider the ages of the children/infants and supervision ratios when you suggest the group size.

·
The skills supported by the experience

Discuss the skills here e.g. social participation, self-help skills, language, hand eye coordination, muscle tone, awareness of others, negotiating, hypothesising, exploring, fine motor, gross motor etc.

·
The resources required for the experience

e.g. a list of equipment, the words of a song, a recipe, the procedure for playing a game.

Remember you are a resource to, where is

it

being set up inside on the mat, outside under the veranda, name the items you will need, a ball, a book, the group of children etc.

·
How the experience will be conducted (the method to be used)

Explain in detail what you are doing and why. What are you hoping to achieve? What are the outcomes for the children?

·
Suggested interactions to support children’s efforts and achievements

What are you saying or doing to support their attempts and acknowledge their achievements? Just remember the interactions are to support and reinforce the learning. Saying and doing things so the children know you are watching, listening, engaging, encouraging, praising and acknowledging their attempts and achievements. Your interactions are valuable and important in supporting and fostering the children’s sense of achievement.

·
Correct references/links for your sources.
Each idea should reference a minimum of two (2) different sources such as books, journals, internet articles, CDs. Provide the name of the article or resource, the author and the date you have accessed the information.

When submitting your portfolio please ensure that it is one document, which will include your resource kit from part A and your response to part B. Please use the assessment template to capture all this information for marking.

Use the following table to present your experience suggestion. Please copy and paste for each of the 15 experiences.
