KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT
Part 1

    1. You are required to demonstrate how to access the following in relevance to ensuring the health and safety of children in the workplace:
· The National Quality Framework
· The National Quality Standards
· The relevant approved learning framework
Guidance: Fill out each section in the table below using relevant information from the National Quality Framework, The National Quality Standards, and the relevant approved learning framework.

Under the NQS there are a number of standards that are relevant to the safety of children in an Early Childhood Education and Care service. What are the 2 main Standards that support this?
The two main standards that support the safety of children in childhood education and care service are quality area 1, which deals with Educational practice and program quality area 2, which deals with the health and safety of the children.
How is the health and safety of children related to the EYLF?
Guidance: Outline which of the five Outcomes addressed in the EYLF most relates to the health and safety of children and explain why.
EYLF increases the responsibility for health care and physical care among children. It is evident when the children get happier, healthier, and aware of their safety when they are able to connect with other people.
Among the 5 outcomes of the EYLF, the outcome that relates to the children’s health and safety is outcome 3.2, which declares about the increasing responsibility for their physical well-being and health (Garzón-Orjuela et al., 2019)
.

What practice does the Guide to the EYLF recommend that educators use to raise and debate issues relating to curriculum quality, equity and children’s wellbeing?
Through the process of ongoing practices of the reviews, the educators can raise and debate issues that are related to the curriculum quality, equity and children well-being.

Review the practice section outlined in the Framework for School Age Care in Australia (FSAC).
This section outlines that “nutrition and safety” are seen as important for educators to consider in relation to ___________. (fill in the gap)
Which practice does this fall under?
     Cultural competence.
In the FSAC, it states that educators can facilitate “Children take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical wellbeing” by engaging children in activities that relate to safety?
The activities which can increase the responsibility of their own health and physical well-being are-
a. Allowing them in physical activities like dancing, games, dramas and many more.
b. Providing them with the materials like puzzle, toys, which helps them to build their skills. It also helps them to develop their skills.
c. Allow them to share about their physical health-related issues which helps them to know about all the safety issues and a safe environment.
d. Making their schedules with nutritional and personal hygiene practices.

Which two National Regulations does the following statement relate to?
“minimise risks to children, an education and care service or a family day care educator must implement:
· adequate health and hygiene practices
· safe practices for handling, preparing and storing food.”
Guidance: Refer to the National Quality Framework website.
National regulations of 77 and 168.
Which National Regulation does the below statement relate to?
“While attending an approved service, children must have access to safe drinking water at all times, and have food and drinks available throughout the day”
Guidance: Refer to the National quality framework website.
        National regulations of 78. 80, and 168.

    2. In your role as an Early Childhood Education and Care worker, you will need to check toys and equipment for potential risk and hazards that may cause harm to children.
· Explain in detail the steps involved in coordinating a risk analysis on toys and what you would be checking for at each step.
· Explain what steps you would take if you identified a toy or piece of equipment that presented a WHS hazard with an extreme risk.
· Which policy, procedure would you refer to for advice on WHS issues?
Guidance: Include reporting procedures and the designated person that you would report to according to organisational procedures. Refer to the Hierarchy of Controls.

Explain in detail the steps involved in coordinating a risk analysis on toys and what you would be checking for at each step.
Steps which are involved in conducting some risk on analysing the toys are-
a) Hazard identification- Proper identification of all the toys which can create a hazard in respect to child safety and appropriateness of age categories.
Assessment of risk- Proper identification of risk, to divide the toys in accordance with the risk level like for example, low-risk toys, high-risk toys. Applying the procedures to eliminate or to control the risk of toys, for example, storing toys or any play items which have a sharp edge, may be caused to increase the risk factor for any children when they play (Maruf et al., 2021)
b) . Therefore, controlling these types of hazards can reduce the risk factors in matters of toys.

Explain what steps you would take if you identified a toy or piece of equipment that presented a WHS hazard with an extreme risk.
The steps are taken when the toys are identified as risk factors are-
a) Taking a strong action to minimise the risk factor from the toy, by if possible minimising the risks from the toy.
b) By the process of eliminating the particular toy or by substituting any other engineering toys in replace of that toy.
c) By removing the hazard from the source of the toy.

Which policy, procedure would you refer to for advice on WHS issues?
Guidance policy and the reporting procedures are referable for the advice of WHS issues.

    3. In your role as an Early Childhood Education and Care worker, you will need to implement effective hygiene and health practices in many aspects of practice.
