Executive Summary
Climate change is no hidden secret for the people. The degradation of the quality of air, which leads to different diseases among the people, has increased in the past few decades. The reason behind such drastic change is due to many reasons; one of the major reasons is the emission of carbon products by the industry. The industrial waste has become a major threat for the existence of life on the earth. The global multinational companies are trying their best to deal with the current crisis. One of the major Silicon Valley based multinational companies is Sun Microsystems, which has taken initiatives called “open works”. This initiative based on the process of improvement of the carbon emission and more productive in their sector. The environmental factor is one of the major aspects for two of the company. Hence, it is important to plan the business strategy by considering environmental factors. This assignment based on the case study of the company Sun Microsystem and how well the company has managed to implement the new strategy for the safe environment. Throughout the assignment the best practices of the company have demonstrated and their advantages simultaneously. The changes that the company has got from the initiatives also mentioned in detail. The management of the company not only has decided to change their business strategy but have taken initiatives to change their own managerial models for the company. The well combination of the management model and leadership model has implemented in the Sun Microsystem for improving their outcome.

Introduction
In this report the consequences of the initiatives by management of the silicon-based companies has taken for the future analysis. The case study that has provided to complete this assignment directly related to the environmental degradation that caused due to the carbon emission. The initiatives taken by the company Sun Microsystems to reduce the carbon emission and its impact on the overall business vividly described in this report. The management model that the company can explore for the better implementation of the Open Works initiatives also discussed well in this report. It is the known fact that without effective leadership the organisation loses its hold over the market. To implement any major change in the company the concept of leadership plays a vital role as well. In this assignment, the leadership models also explored to employ the most suitable leadership model for the company. The discussion on selecting the most suitable management and leadership models to improve the outcome also done in this report.
Answer to question 1
The multinational companies are the core companies, which can do certain things that are in their limits to protect the earth. The reason behind the major industrial pollution is the excessive emission of the carbon products. The emission of the carbon product is not only harmful for the people but for all the living beings that are present in the earth. The initiatives that the company has taken by the company is for the reducing the carbon emissions and to become more productive known as Open Works. This initiative comprises the several steps that were implemented by the company to save the environment (Rajala,Westerlund and Lampikoski, 2016). The several parts of the Open Works considered as the principle of best practices. The first principle of best practice that the company has adapted is to remove the personal computers from the company and replace it by the new technology called thin clients. The thin clients is the advanced technology that invented to store the date of the company in the integrated way at one place. The data of the thin client computer is stored in the central remote server unlike those of the personal computers, which have in-built memory. The employees of the company have done the second best practices under the initiatives. They have taken small steps within the organisation to help contribute to environmentally friendly initiatives. The steps like that of saving energy when not needed. Printing at both the sides of the page is yet another step taken by the employees to contribute their parts in the goal of the company (Duignan, 2020). The power saving was not only at the employees’ level was done about the management of the company has saved power by raising the temperature of the data centres. Among the best practices of the company, the video conferencing became the best tool for the company to communicate which eventually saved the time and air pollution for the meeting using cars or airplanes meant polluting the air because of the fuel emissions from both the ways. Lastly, the redesigning of the entire company done for better utilisation of the natural sources of light. For example, the window seat offered to the employees for the natural source of light, the management of the company encouraged the employees to work from home to free up the space in the company, which results in the lower use of the resources such as power. Even the manager of the company shifted to the core buildings. With the help of these practices, effective changes can take place.
