Chain-link fencing is the most commonly used type of perimeter fence. It requires little maintenance, is simple to erect, and provides for greater visibility in comparison to wood or masonry forms of perimeter control. To be fully effective, chain-link fences should be constructed of 11 gauge or heavier wire, and be at least 8 feet high, with mesh of 2 square inches or less (Reid, 2005).
