Catapult Exercise: Set up, conduct, and then analyze a DOE similar to the one executed in Chapter 30. However, this time repeat each trial three times. Analyze the mean and standard deviation of each trial response. Evaluate the residuals of the standard deviation to determine if a data transformation is needed. Consider factors that not only adjust the mean response (e.g., arm length) but also could affect response variability. Include a measurement method factor, where one level of the factor is a visual recording of the distance with no marking (i.e., no carbon paper or talcum powder to mark ball impact point) and the other is using some method to mark the ball position at impact. Consider how the factor levels will be chosen (e.g., high ball projection arc or flat projection arc). Consider also whether the factor levels are going to be chosen so that there will be much variability between throw distances or so that the throw distances will be more clustered around the target (i.e., very bold or not so bold selection of factor levels).
