Catalogue entries are short academic essays that identify, analyze, and contextualize an artwork or object. Catalogue entries appear in catalogues that accompany a museum exhibition, and sometimes appear as wall text in a museum. For each assignment, you will select 1 object discussed in lecture for the appropriate cultural group and write a 1-1.5-page catalogue entry on it. Entries must adhere to following guidelines for full credit (max. 1 letter-grade deduction):



  • 1 -1.5 pages of text (roughly 2-3 paragraphs [a standard paragraph is 6-8 sentences])

  • 12 pt. font, Times New Roman

  • Double-spaced text

  • 1’ margins

  • Heading with your name, course name, assignment name (single-spaced)

  • Header with your last name and page number in the upper right corner of each page

  • Window/Orphan control ‘off’

  • Put images with a caption on a separate page at the end of the text

  • Caption format: Artist or Culture,Title, date(s). Medium. Museum/repository.
