1). Leverage refers to the use of debt by the company to finance its operations. Since the leverage
increase the risk of the company, hence its also increases the return of the company.
2). If we employ too much debt, the company would be at risk of non-payment of interest payable on the debt. However, if the company employs less debt then the company would be at risk of not utilizing the tax benefit on interest payable on the debt correctly.
3). A company is said to be over-leveraged if the company is not able to afford the interest payments and the effect of the additional debt is not increasing the earning per share of the company. A company is said to be under-leveraged if the additional debt increases the earning per share of the company.
4). If the Operating Margin of the company is low, then the company should take equity to finance so that the company does not have to pay the interest and if the operating margin is high then the company should use the debt.
