Case 5 “I would love to evaluate my cases, but they drop out prematurely. Is there anything I can do about this?” Response to Case 5 This is a difficult problem, but we believe that the major issue lies in the practice area, not in the evaluation realm. If this is true of a large proportion of your caseload, and those of others in your agency, then it looks as if some institutional structures may be interfering with continuity in service. If it is mainly your clients that are dropping out of treatment, then use whatever data you have on whatever clients you had, and go over them in detail with a colleague or your supervisor. This is an opportunity to examine your own methods in detail. It very well may be chance, or the type of difficult problems with which you work, but it might also be that you need to brush up on certain techniques, enhance communication or interpersonal skills, and so on.
