Carr seems concerned that machines will replace human thought, and that we will lose something important to our humanity as a result. He says that in “Google’s world, ” the human brain is “just an outdated computer that needs a faster processor and a bigger hard drive” (par. 20). In his conclusion, Carr laments that in the movie 2001, “people have become so machinelike that the most human character turns out to be a machine” (par. 24). What do you think of Carr’s concerns about the danger that machines pose to humans, especially machines that mimic the human mind? What could be the long-lasting consequences of not prizing human qualities, like the ability to contemplate?
