Skills Demonstration 1: Bed Bath
Introduction and aims
Title of skill
Bed Bath
Advance preparation
It requires bath sponges or washcloths, wash basins, towels, no-rinse or no-tear shampoo, soap, body lotion, a stand or table to hold equipment, and a waterproof sheet. Put a waterproof sheet or mat under the individual to prevent the bed from getting wet. Modify the room temperature as required. Ensure the bed is high enough so individuals don't strain their backs. For privacy, keep the door closed and shut the drapes or blinds (Decormeille et al. 2020).
Identifying the needs of the client
Some patients are unable to move from their beds to take a bath safely. Regular bed baths enable these individuals to maintain their skin healthily, increase comfort, and control odour.
Determine the client's capacity to help with the bath. Evaluate the client's ability to follow instructions. Investigate any possible sexual, generational, and cultural issues.
Always demonstrate the process to the patient and receive his/her consent initially, under the educational institution's or employer's policies (Konya, Nishiya & Yano 2021).
Implementation
Eliminate the patient's outfit and wrap it with a bath sheet whilst the dress and top sheet are removed. Fill the basin halfway with cold and hot water and assess the temperature. Wrap a face towel around the client's neck. Create a mitten around the gingers after removing excess water from the sponge towel. Wet the client's hands and use soap on the client's face, forehead, behind and over the client's ears, and neck.
To maintain dignity, knock before stepping into a room when the door is closed. When bathing someone, assist them in undressing only after the bath is prepared, or when performing a bed bath, expose only the body parts that are to be washed (Veje et al. 2019). To promote independence, allow the patient to wipe his or her face with a wet sponge towel.
Use soap on the axilla and arm with a soapy bath mitt. Pressure areas should be massaged. Wet the chest and use soap in a rotatory motion, focusing on skin creases. Remove soap completely by wiping the neck. Soap the abdomen and scrub it clean. With a towel, dry and clean the umbilicus. Wet the back and use soap in a rotatory motion. After removing the soap, let the area dry and clean (Decormeille et al. 2020). Massage the entire back by utilising firm pressure from the lower spine to the shoulder in a sequential manner. Repeat the procedure on the legs and pubic region....
