CAP4770 – Module 1 Assignment Objective With this assignment, students will complete examining the foundations of the process of data mining and it main elements. Assignment Questions 1. Discuss a real-life application where data mining could be used. What kinds of patterns could be mined in your application example? How could the patterns be generated? 2. Select one specific application domain and explain the major research challenges of data mining for that application domain. 3. Consider the real-life application example presented by you in Question 1. Describe the architecture you would use and the purpose of its components. 4. Consider a data stream that contains spatial information that changes over time. Explain an example of such type of data stream and discuss what kind of knowledge could be mined from it. What would be some of the challenges in the implementation of data mining in your example? 5. Use your example of Question 4 to outline a method that would mine specific knowledge from the data stream. Guidelines The assignment is to be completed individually.
