Introduction
Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) is a monthly taxable benefit that is replaced from the part of the income when a person retires. This pension plan is provided for the eligible person who had attained at least 60 years of age, and the person may have made at least one contribution towards CPP. However, there are certain changes in the CPP, which may have both positive and negative impact over the pension holders. In this report a detailed discussion is done on the changes implemented over CPP and the discussion is also done on the impact over the senior citizens. The discussion is done on the reviewed research papers presented in order to justify the statement.
Discussion
Covid-19 situation had created a turmoil on global basis and that had also impacted over CPP. In the article published in Toronto Sun (Nov 20, 2020) that there has been a proposal in the hike in premiums of Canada Pension Plan, which will be very hard over the businesses. This will mainly happen because the businesses had to face closure because of the lockdown for many days. Further one in every three business units are facing monetary loss because they are opening in the Covid-19 emergency situation. In the news article the discussion is done in a detailed manner that how this initiative will put more pressure on the businesses and they may have to opt for closing down their unit. Another fact that is discussed in this article is regarding the employees of Canadian organization because premium hikes will also put burden over their take home salary, and considering the current situation of the businesses, there is a very grim situation that any of the company will be able to provide raise in salaries to the employees.
In the second article posted at CFIB (Nov 19, 2020) that from January 1, 2021 the CPP hike will hit the employers payroll budgets, and that will cut the take home wages for the workers. In this report there is also discussion done over the impact of Covid-19 situation over the businesses, and the proposed hike in the premium will make things even worse for the businesses, because they are facing monetary loss. It has been estimated that on the verge of implementing economic recovery plan, around 70 percent business house are saying that at this moment government should not increase the payroll taxes, including CPP, because this will badly hit the people of Canada who are employed, and it will also impact the business houses.
