Part one: First case study (25 marks)
Research a case study from published sources.
· Briefly summarise the case including background on the organisation and an overview of the change your case focusses on.
· Evaluate and discuss the following aspects of change, focussing on linking theories and concepts from course materials that best illustrate the dynamics of change from your case:
o strategy
o one tool, or programme or activity used for the change process
o leadership
· Briefly summarise the outcomes of the change process and how those outcomes are best evaluated.
Part one marking schedule
Format and presentation (2 marks)
- correct spelling, punctuation and grammer (1)
- correct APA citing and referencing (1)
Context (2 marks)
- information about the organisation is concise and sets the context for your case (1) (brief over view about the company)
- the change and the rationale for change is concisely outlined (1) (opinion / recommendation)
Strategy (6 marks)
- you have outlined the significance of the link between strategy and change supported by relevant theory (2) (identify the strategy or model (bcg) )
- you have identified the strategic drivers for change and linked those to broader environmental dynamics (2) (drivers for change – trend- competiton etc)
- you have evaluated the appropriateness of the strategic dimension of the change (2) (bcg) (justify why that strategy useful)
Tools (6 marks)
- you have outlined one of the tools used in change processes, supported by relevant theory (2) (theory or tool – ralate or link to company) (lewin’s theory)
- you have evaluated the efficacy and suitability of this tool (4) (effectness-justifiacation of tool or theory)
Leadership (6 marks)
- you have outlined the significance of leadership in change processes, supported by relevant theory (2) (top management roles - styles in change)
- you have evaluated the efficacy of leadership in the change process (4) ( your opinion about the top management roles)
Outcomes (3 marks)
- you have briefly outlined the outcomes from the change process (1) (final result after change )
- you have evaluated methods of measuring change and identified other measures not available in the case that would aid evaluation of change outcomes. (2) (what other methods company can use for change – recommendation other result)
