The aim of this assessment task is to write a business report that investigates and analyses the issues relating to the right to disconnect (digital overload) from a business perspective by reading and analysing relevant scholarly articles, using contemporary examples and providing a personal reflection. Instructions 1. Read the article (available via the library): Savage R., Staunton M. (2018) How Employees Are Impacted. In: Thomson P., Johnson M., Devlin J. (eds) Conquering Digital Overload. Palgrave Macmillan, Cham. Search for additional articles that will inform the following questions: a. Explain the concept of the right to disconnect. b. Some resources can be found here on reflective writing: http://www.port.ac.uk/media/contacts-and-departments/student-support-services/ask/downloads/Reflective-writing---a-basic-introduction.pdf 4. Introduction
The effect of technology at workplace consist major challenges. Instead of making Digital Edge work more attractive, they are usually counterproductive. In the theory of technology, workers have to get a more balanced life and control how they work. Employees are motivated to practice personal habits and stress. But many people listen to these examples and ask if their own company cannot be the same. Digital technology puts information on the threshold around the world, but it allows the basic to reach its peak at unprecedented time with its unique facilities.
Part 1
a. Concept of the right to disconnect
The border between work and personal time has created a new industry around "Digital alert" with this now every country has changed the law to protect its employees. Under many industries, the over use of digital tools and devices is become an issue many employees face today. This has caused discomfort, relationship problems, and the inability to switch off. While internet is taking on the most aspects of human life, it is difficult for people to find a proper balance between work and personal life. In fact, Elias of the French Research Group published a study and showed that 37% of workers used their devices for work after work hours daily. First of all, these employees have the right to “disconnect employees”, now they have the right to 'disconnect' from technology, no need to worry about email replies outside work hours. Some big companies like Volkswagen and Ace Company in France are taking the initiative to limit online messaging after a few hours (Alge, 2012). Some measures include closing an email connection in the evening and weekends. Some companies, such as Daimler, automatically create an automated system of creating emails and delete the emails sent to them and inform the email sender that the person is out of the office. Now France has enacted a law related to the rights of digital devices in France, which means that employers may have a different how do you think, which affects your staff effectively. One of the main points is that the culture of France (nowadays) was assumed by the culture of work: They were uninformed and did not know how they would affect their employees' health (Blackwell, Goya-Tocchetto and Sturman, 2017).
b. Benefits and limitations of disconnecting from email
Benefits
While checking emails out of work, it does not appear to be such a big thing, it says that it is always available, be quick to respond and ready to deal with projects in all hours of the day. Employees do not have the mental capacity to invest in their relationships with their spouse, children or their friends. Several research studies show that work will be likely to fall into a spiral of lost resources while working at home while couples do not compensate from their job stress." Regular work breaks, reduces stress, improves relationships, enhances your work, and maintains emotional health. It's difficult, but entirely possible, to put aside time to live without that precious electronics. You may have to look at the night cutoff time, a certain day of the week or a few hours early (Dubrau, 2015). But that's it to make sure employees have some time. Employers also play a role here. Set the policy to refrain from employees using slack or email after certain hours or weekends. At the end of the day, nobody wants to spend too much time with them to respond to emails or check their phone. Now, in theory, do not keep quiet on the phone, because French workers now have the new "right to disconnect". The new law has come into force on January 1, and allows employees to ignore email for more than 50 people after work hours, according to the government's "Residual Time and Vacation, and Personal and Family Inclusion" life. "It is difficult to argue with them, but some people, the new government-approved off-switches, seem to be a sign of a deeper problem, in which French authorities try to regulate every aspect of the work-with most mixed results (Eneh, 2010).
Limitations
“According to Thomas Chardin, Director of Human Resources Consultancy Parlors RH.com in Paris, people are in a culture built by social rules, which work with leading French companies to manage their online work habits. Employees are still in the old model, where everything is very preserved, regular, formal, written down." People are afraid to fear anything. "Legislation and rule have disappeared in the assembly years, strict security arrangements without flying, and five-week annual to ensure vacation breaks and 35 hours business days - US In 2008, the retirement age increased from 62 to 67. A few months back, the fight against violent street demonstrations, as well as many of them in the twentieth century, decided to retain their right to rest. But companies are changing the working-culture of huge digital devices in France - everywhere. Many managers...
