Building on the Week 4 Assignment and this week’s discussion, you will provide a scientific rationale for selecting your sample size. To help you determine the correct sample size needed for your identified research project, use the Sample Size Calculator (you can find the link in the weekly guide under reading assignments) and determine the sample size. Read the instructions carefully and first find your confidence interval (the link also provides a calculator for that). Once you have found the sample size, explain the choices you made and why your choices would ensure an adequate sample size for your project.

Running Head: BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS1 BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS 2 UNDERLYING CAUSES FOR EMPLOYEE TURNOVER IN A RETAIL COMPANY Table of Contents Introduction3 Problem Statement3 Research Question4 Research Design4 References5 Introduction One of the most studied domains in business research is employee turnover. Employee turnover in the retail industry is a significant issue of concern for start-ups from the practical standpoint where there can be various underlying causes, which can provide insight for controlling the reasons to address the issue (Olubiyi, Smiley, Luckel & Melaragno, 2019). Retail industries worldwide can retain employees for great business performance, but in the case of Delta Pvt. Ltd., the rate of employee turnover is increasing day by day. The findings of this research will be used for developmental purposes if the organization takes precautionary measures. The complexity of the problem is that it is challenging for both their administrators and the workplace. Unless the reasons are unveiled, the solutions cannot be formed (Martelli & Greener, 2018). There can be ranging factors like job dissatisfaction, stressful workload, unhealthy work culture, poor compensation plan, lack of future growth, absence of career development and discrimination (Pandey, Singh & Pathak, 2019). However, apart from the factors mentioned earlier, there also can be other reasons. Particularly in the retail sector, this can be specifically due to boundary-spanning activities, imbalance in personal and professional life, extended work hours and impractical sales targets. Problem Statement Employee turnover is an issue of great concern, and recruiting new employees is a lengthy and costly process. Therefore, finding out the root cause of employee turnover is important for arresting the issue. In addition, it would be useful for the refinement of the personnel practices carried out in the organization (Kim, Tam, Kim & Rhee, 2017). This has continued to plague the company, and minimizing the number of skilled professionals is very crucial. This can reduce the escalating cost associated with recruiting another set of employees. There can be multiple issues, which are job-related or even non-job related. Another issue can be organizational fit. Improvements can be designed by the managers and the HRM only if there can be potential identification of the major factors leading to employee turnover in the respective organization. Research Question What are the underlying causes of employee turnover in the retail sector in Delta Pvt. ltd? Research Design This will be descriptive research, which will be based on deductive research design. The questionnaire for the survey will be sent to the participants through e-mail, and before that, their consent will be taken through e-mails. The questionnaire for this study will be semi-structured for generating the maximum number of options and concepts for a good result. The primary qualitative data will be collected from the current employees and recent ex-employees. The sample size for this research will be 50 employees who will be randomly chosen 25 out of them will be working currently with the company. The data will be measured through frequency distribution in excel to determine the major reasons for leaving the company. The result will be represented through graphs and charts. Based on the findings of this research, preventive measures can be taken, and the company's policy can be restructured for the proper functioning of the company. References Kim, S., Tam, L., Kim, J. The sample will be taken from top five brands namely Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, Costco, Sobeys Safeway and Metro Inc. Due to limited mobility post pandemic the random selection of the employees will be done (Aono & Nguyen, 2017). The sample size will be kept relatively small to 10 employees from each retail company. Justification for Opting for Simple Random Probability Sampling Technique The random selection will be done in order to lower the risk of carrying an error. It will help to collect the unbiased data, which is very important aspect of this research (Etikan & Bala, 2017). The level of knowledge required to complete the research will be less because due to fear of pandemic it is not advisable to go reach all the employees at once. It will help to apply the findings to the entire population base (Hind, Lisboa, Hussain & Al-Jumeily, 2019). Aligning with Text (Analyze) Due to high turnover, rate employees are not ready to share information therefore to conduct the front-end analysis it is important to pick employees, who are readily available. This will help to gather data about the problem of turnover (Martelli & Greener, 2018, 55). Aligning with Text (Design) The research questions was formulated and based on that the hypothesis of turnover will be framed. The data will be collected online and limited to ten employees per company because being the biggest brands they might have their individual turnover ratios, which vary due to different factors (Martelli & Greener, 2018, 55). The rules made by government and restrictions on physical interaction has encouraged to do online research for the topic. References Aono, Y., & Nguyen, P. Q. (2017).
