British Petroleum (BP), a British multinational company for extraction of natural resources that operates in more than 100 countries, also operates in Pakistan as British Petroleum Pakistan (BPP), which primarily focuses on the extraction of coal, oil, gas and iron ore in areas of Badin and Sindh. However, this company has lately been involved in environmental issues such as ‘Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill’ in the US and similarly it has been involved in dumping the waste rock in coastal areas of Badin, which not only caused the suffering of marine life but also affected the human beings that are living in the surrounding areas. Furthermore, while moving from one site to another BP does not dispose of the waste after extraction, which causes pollution and epidemic diseases. BP is also threatening the climate and environment by not carrying out its extraction in a sustainable and environment-friendly way, disregarding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and gravely affecting the environment. Nonetheless, one of the major ethical issues, which is being disregarded by BP is that of hazards related to mining. By disregarding this, several workers faced serious injuries and deaths by collapsing of mines, yet no precautionary measures are taken by BP in order to provide a safe workplace to the workers along with safe equipment. On behalf of the Government of Pakistan, a claim would be brought against BP for these ethical dilemmas posed by BP in the light of energy law as well as National Law of United Kingdom and Pakistan and relevant International Law. These claims can further be divided into Why the identified scenarios are constituted as ethical dilemmas? If they are not combatted, what would happen? How should the national governments and international legislation combat these challenges? And finally, if national governments are successful in challenging them, what change might this bring in the mining sector?
