British diplomat, physicist, and environmentalist John Ashton, in speaking to a group of scientists, stated (paraphrased): “There has to be much better communication between the world of science and the world of politics. Consider the different meaning of the word uncertainty. To scientists, it means uncertainty over the strength of a signal. To politicians it means ’go away and come back when you’re certain.’” Pretend you are a scientist with strong but inconclusive evidence in support of impending climate change.
