Before that is was said that Indigenous Peoples lived in Australia for more than 40000 years. New settlement was designed to reduce overcrowding in British prisons and expand Empire. The consequences of the Invasion was the diseases that were bought to the country and spread to the Indigenous communities. Settlement was in 1788. During this 'British people were hunted and brutally murdered' (Behrent 2012, p. 274) and 'colonist offering food to Indigenous laces with poisons'(Behrent 2012, p. 274). The effects of the Arrival included sexual abuse and exploitation of females bought on sexually transmitted diseases (Harris 2013, p. 151) and other diseases such as influenza, small pox and measles to the wider community. Small pox killed half the Indigenous People in 14 months of Invasion in the Sydney region. (Governor Phillip to Lord Sydney, p. 308)
