Bottled water is sold in PET bottles. The overall recycling rate for PET at end of life is 22%. One maker of bottled water proposes to use 50% of recycled PET in their bottles. Retrieve the carbon footprint of primary PET, CO₂, and that for recycled PET, CO₂,rc, from the data sheet in Chapter 15. Use them to estimate the material life carbon footprint using the recycle fraction method and the Future EoL carbon credit of the PET of the bottles if 22% of them were recycled.
