Both the quality of the conversation and the misattribution of arousal on the date influence romantic attraction. Researchers examined the individual and combined effects of both of these factors. Participants went on a date that consisted of either a walk on a paved path in the woods (“standard” date) or Zip-lining and walking across a very high rope bridge (“adventure” date). At dinner following the activity, the conversation quality was either “average” (pleasant but superficial) or more exceptional in which they felt they were “connecting” with their date on many topics. They then rated their romantic attraction to their date on a scale from 1 (none at all) to 10 (very attracted).
