Submission Due by 11:55pm AEST/AEDT Sunday Module 2.2 (Week 4) Weighting 20% Total Marks 100 marks Introduction In business, successful communicators must transfer and respond to messages and requests using written communication to suit their audience, otherwise messages can be misinterpreted or misunderstood. Learning how to identify your audience and their expectations and needs is a large part of good leadership and effective management in every business. This assessment is made up of 3 tasks – Task 1 & 2 are about you as a student and Task 3 is about Business Communications. Each task is designed for you to demonstrate your ability to apply your knowledge and understanding of key concepts relating to written communication covered in Modules 1 and 2 of this subject. This assessment will provide you with an insight into business communication and resources for you to use to reach your academic potential. Task 1 (300 words) Academic Integrity Scenario - You are a student mentor and as part of your role, have been asked to provide information and advice to guide and support your fellow students beginning at the University. Begin by undertaking research into the topic of integrity at university - this is so you provide accurate information and advice to your fellow students. Use these topics to guide your research, then plan and write your blog as a short written response. These areas are important to explain writing with integrity and why it matters. • Why is academic integrity important? • What penalties can apply to breaches of academic integrity? • How does working with integrity improve your professional and personal success? You can also refer to the TUA Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures as these documents will provide valuable information to share with your audience. Task 2 Achieving Academic Success – 250 words Reaching your potential in your academic study is enhanced by understanding your learning style, and learning how to manage your time. It is also important to develop skills in critical thinking and apply critical evaluation to what your research and academic and business writing. Use these topics to guide your research, then plan and write your advice as a short written response. • What is your Learning style based on Peterson & Kolb’s (2017) Learning Style? • Why is time management important when you are a student? • What is critical thinking and how will you apply it to further your knowledge and develop your skills as a student? Task 3 Models of Business Communication– 250 words Communication is identified as one of the top 3 skills needed for Employability into the 21st century. Business communications involves reading, writing, speaking and listening. It is both internal with your work colleagues and external to customers and clients through such channels as marketing and everyday interactions. Reference list for Assessment 1 Tasks • You need a minimum of three (3) academic references and in-text citations in your reference list. o 2 must be textbooks or academic journals o 1 to be an appropriate website. You must follow the appropriate APA 6th edition style for citing and referencing your research. The reference list at the end your article must include references to the following: • a minimum of three (3) academic sources as in-text citations to support your ideas, 2 of which should be textbooks or academic journals and 1 website/s The reference list does not count towards the word limit for this task.
