Bilbo is an 25 year old Australian man.  He lived with his single father after the death of his mother in child-birth. He is an only child.  He started university after leaving high school with an averaged grade, but didn’t like the schedule of university, and the drive was an hour each way.  So he got a job on the Railway as a security guard.  He didn’t like this either, and has moved interstate and started again as a university student.

He was doing well in his first year, and had made a lot of friends in his program.  He had met a very nice young woman named Haki, also a student at his university.  They moved in together and they were considering getting married.  One Saturday evening, she complained of a pain in her side, and when she went to the hospital she was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy, resulting in a left-sided salpingo-oopherectomy (look it up!).  They were very sad about the loss of a potential child, and the painful surgery.
After 3 days, Haki was discharged to home. She seemed to take a long time to recover, and still hadn’t gone back to uni one month post- discharge.  Bilbo was worried, but didn’t know what to do.
