Bernard is a 63-year-old lawyer living in New York City. He still works full-time at his own practice and is known to be a workaholic. Bernard’s wife left him 20 years ago because she “could not put up with his long work hours”. Recently Bernard started dating Kim (who is 39 years old).
For the past 6 months, the two have been on many dates, two trips to the Caribbean, and many romantic restaurant dinners. Bernard comes to the health clinic in Manhattan and reports having difficulty maintaining an erection. He says that he is having problems with his “plumbing” too. He explains that he dribbles urine and it feels like he keeps wetting his pants. He asks for an explanation on why this could be happening. He states: “One good thing, at least I don’t have to worry about getting Kim pregnant!”
2. What should you include in your health teaching related to Bernard thinking he cannot get Kim pregnant?
