Anyone know this mechanism. Using zinc dust and acetyl chloride as reagents. Pretty sure this isn't a Clemson's type of reduction but the procedure to make the still bene was done by mixing 1g zinc dust and 1 g of pure dry benzil into a 50 ml r bf while in an ice bath. Does the cold conditions basically have the same effect? Please show detailed mechanism, thanks!
