Benefits package and resource constraints respond to the following prompts: List two health interventions that the Australian Medicare (publicly funded care) does not cover in Australia (or in the country where you live). Alternatively, list two healthcare services that have a larger than “normal” co-pay (out-of-pocket payment) when used. Are these exclusions/large co-pays justified? The Australian government recently proposed lowering the Medicare reimbursement rate for outpatient care use for all users by $5 per visit. In light of what you know about Australia’s health system, is this appropriate? Would you rather “means test” the reimbursement rate reduction? Why?
