Below are ideas for projects on The Enlightenment. You may come up with your own idea based on your own strengths; however, you will have to identify a criteria for creation and evaluation. Any of these suggestions may be done without prior approval, but if you select a project that is not on the list, you must conference with me for approval before beginning.

You will hand this project in on Canvas as a URL, PDF or Word document, or Media File. It is your responsibility to be sure that the media type is accessible and that all links and file are in working order before you submit them. I WILL NOT ACCEPT ASSIGNMENTS VIA EMAIL. Think about your game-plan ahead of time. It is highly unlikely that you will be able to complete this assignment at the last minute and do well.

Remember that you will be graded on (in order of importance):

(a) the amount of knowledge your project presents and its integrity to the original epic. For all projects, you will need to illustrate your knowledge of the authors, historical background, rhetorical styles, etc. for full points.

(b) the amount of creativity it presents, and – more importantly – its final appearance.

(c) the quality of writing it presents, both in terms of writing mechanics and writing conventions.

Some ideas

Cartesian Times Newspaper

Create a newspaper (perhaps satire?) that reflects the "news" of the Enlightenment. You will need to include popular sections just like a real newspaper: sports, world news, local news, entertainment, comics, advice column, etc. Make sure that the contents of your newspaper reflect all your knowledge of Enlightenment thought.

Blog

Imagine if Mary Astell had kept a blog. In these posts, Astell vividly describes life in a convent, life as a wife, maybe an argument with Mary Wolstonecraft. Write a blog of AT LEAST 6 entries, using the proper format. Each post should be at least one page in length.

Create a Board Game

Create a board game based on A Modest Proposal (for example). You are the judge for this assignment; you make the rules. Your game must include a title, a board, game pieces, illustrations, and an instruction booklet to go with it. The game should be playable and relate to the essay in more ways than just place-names and characters.

Travel Brochure

Create a cruise travel brochure based on Douglass' (for instance) travels. This brochure should be colorful, creative, and written to entice travelers to spend their money on your tour to --- [fill in the blank].

Social Media Profile

Create a Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, or subReddit for one of the authors from The Enlightenment. Be sure to include significant relationships, posts, statuses, comments, etc. from other “friends’ and “followers.” There are plenty of blank templates available for free Online.

    ENLIGHTENMENT: Does it Really Matter?
People Demand for Pagan Gods?
We need to move back to the history when pagan gods were intellectual and humans were their transferred epithets. E
nlightenment is not just an age, it surpasses eternity because intellectuals flourish in this age; the combination of mind with what people see is most overwhelming. We play, we laugh and we cry but not ‘together’; we first see who is worthy to see our laughter and then we decide up to what degree, this disposure of laughter would not violate intellectual norms—or at least, Samuel Johnson believes in the classification of emotions from high to low. The classes are determined by the utopia of a bunch of people and the rest is so called ‘Enlightenment’, all of the ‘lights’ missing from it.
We seek explanation over Intellectualism? Mainstream Society Closed or Opened yet?
Who is to blame for all this social strata of intellectualism—perhaps Kant of Newton who invented that every action ahs an equal and opposite reaction. With this theory intact, it is implied that the reaction—which is opposite—to intellectualism is sheer stupidity. It might be criticized in the general context of era because idiotic behavior is zero tolerance policy i.e. nobody is supposed to be idiotic or emotionally foolish. It is not something that people accept easily. All someone needs is intellect with no ‘opposite reaction to it’.
With the theory mentioned above, Enlightenment does not seek justice of intellect; it rather goes to seek perfection in intellect. But what would this all discussion consequently lead to? Is there a society where no foolishness, no frivolous behavior is acceptable? The answer will be a casual ‘no’. To add cherry on the top, we have authors like Steven Pinker who believes in writing—in spite of being a scientist, he holds that passion and intellectual bearing to the writing skills.
