Religious groups are one of the most salient agents of socialization. Most people are born into a particular religious group and are socialized from birth in the beliefs of that group. Beliefs are ideas about what is true, so they are very difficult, if not impossible, to argue empirically. What we can do sociologically is look at how other social factors influence beliefs.
