Before creating dialogues on power and oppression with students, it is critical to honestly assess your own knowledge, comfort level, and skill to do so. A good resource to help understand the process and necessary components of facilitating difficult dialogues is Quaye’s (2012) article, “Think before You Teach: Preparing for Dialogues about Racial Realities.” Consider employing his suggestions to facilitate dialogues on race and ethnicity, including assessing your ability to gauge students’ comfort levels and their development of intercultural maturity
