Basing CDM and Client Advice on Evidence
Karen is a 75-year-old patient with mild age-related macular degeneration. She has heard that progression can be slowed by increasing dietary intake of omega 3 fatty acids and asks whether this is correct. A search of the PubMed database and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews finds that high-level evidence (a Cochrane systematic review) is available on this particular clinical topic. It indicates that dietary supplementation with omega 3 fatty acids has no effect on progression of the disease. What advice do you offer Karen?
