Introduction
The world has modernized and looks like a dystopia for many people- a kind of "the darkest timeline", as mentioned in the American sitcom Community. The best contributions to acknowledge dystopian fiction and its tradition, there are two distinct pieces of artwork from the 20th century. George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World are those two masterpieces that depict the best of dystopia.
Common Ground between the Authors
Both pieces that show dystopia has many common details. Aldous and Orwell both saw the future of the world shaped as weapons for mass destruction (Zubair). Orwell thinks of it as a nuclear was whereas Huxley describes it as a weapon for biological and chemical warfare. They both came up with the same concept of permanent social stratification which would divide humanity into categories determined by traditional class combined with totalitarian loyalty systems (Orwell) or by psychological conditioning and biological engineering (Huxley). Both had imagined the future world to be filled with men driven primarily by sex though in a diametrically different manner: narcotizing, deliberate promiscuity for Huxley; state-enforced celibacy and repression for Orwell.
Future Premonitions
Both authors foretold the future to be America dominated. They assumed that the government would give a lot of effort always to try and incite economic consumption; none of them thought of quantitative ease. Huxley and Orwell begin their book with a familiar yet disconcertingly futuristic. Brave New World begins with: "A squat grey building of only thirty-four stories," (Huxley). We are expected to be amazed at the “only” used in the phrase. “It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen,” begins Nineteen Eighty-Four. Here the emphasis lies in the number “Thirteen”.
Warnings for the Future
Both the writers gave warnings in their books. Huxley said, “The message of the book”, was, “This is possible: for heaven’s sake, be careful about it.” According to his visions, humanity would experience a future daunted with drugs and pleasure along with voluntary distractions of “civilizedinfantilization”.
