Based on preliminary assessments of the client’s full situation, a categorical match will be conducted by an external reviewer, who will then indicate the average time that is needed with the standard or validated methods in regard to a given condition. The practitioner has to decide whether to accept this interpretation or to provide further information on extenuating circumstances that require the provision of more or less time and/or covered services. In addition to outcome measures, managed care thinking also will require something new in single-system designs: a continuing concern for the quality of care, including client satisfaction, and how well the intervention conforms to standard expectations for best treatment.
