The code is comparable to those of other organisations such as the American Psychological Association and the International Association of Marriage and Family Counsellors. The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy's (AAMFT) standards of ethics establish the bar for ethical practise in the therapeutic profession. The AAMFT code of ethics addresses all elements of therapeutic practise, including the therapist's relationship with clients and the confidentiality of client information.
While both and ethics regulate marital and family therapists' work, AAMF's is a crucial instrument that a marriage and family therapist must use when making decisions about their behaviour. The AAMFT Code of Ethics offers a wide range of concepts that therapists may find useful in their clinical work. The AAMFT code of ethics also instructs marriage and family therapists on their obligations to their clients. It is intended to protect therapists against and support professionals in coping with any hazards that may emerge during professional activity.
